尺('Ruler')

My work is a process of self-dialogue and self-gaze. By retracing the history of the invention of the ruler, I use the functional concept of the 'ruler' as a figurative object to express the abstract process of self-criticism and self-shaping. This work was inspired by my anxiety. I am always in a state of self-examination, measuring myself over and over again, measuring myself by various standards. This state of repeated measurement to validate it made me think of the element of the “ruler”.I then researched the concept of the “ruler” in ancient China.
The space chosen for the exhibition was a dark room, with the main light source being the wall sconces on the photographs. I placed torches on the stands and posted signs to indicate that visitors could use the torches to see any details about the works. Of course, they could also choose to view the exhibition without a torch. I thought that the torch had the function of gathering the eye and showing the details. My work is not a fine image, it is a collection of my insecurities, my anxieties, my reflections on myself, and my lack of confidence. This way of viewing that magnifies the rough details is a struggle with my lack of confidence in the process of self-examination.
