My practice revolves around texts and everyday objects, including the symbolic expression of words and the dialogue with immediate scenes. I’m concerned with the function of the text and the rhetorical nature of the object, exploring the rhetorical contradiction of everyday objects, and the transformative forms of both text and image. I’m constantly experimenting with non-linear forms of language to express my ideas.

I am interested in Chinese character culture and based on my past study experiences and research, therefore, my works are word-based and some of their inspirations trace origins back to ancient Chinese words. My main forms of practice are installations and documentary videos. The main character is usually me or animals. In videos, I write scripts first and shoot materials according to them. Scripts are inspired by small things in life, things that are easily overlooked but cause emotions or are fun to talk about. Installations are recent experiments and I will continue to practice them. I want to keep making installations that relate to the body and emotions using as simple material as possible.

My works tend to be presented in a simple format. In my past works, with my dark humor, I am trying to lead viewers to explore the irony of the daily defaults and provoke viewers to think about the power structure in modern society. For my most recent work, I am trying to ease my anxiety in the process of creation. By visualizing external factors and self-examination, this feeling of judgment tends to be quantifiable. To some extent, allowing myself reduces the sense of panic brought on by the baseless self-gazing and self-criticism.
